You take on the role of farmers who develop their plantations to gain prestige and wealth in these new times. You fight for the best workers to help you produce your goods. You will then sell them, trying to maximize your profits. You also invest in the development of urban infrastructure to gain prestige and respect of the local community. Will you be able to gain more prestige than the rest and become the wealthiest person among Puerto Rican farmers?
The aim of the game is to gain as many victory points as possible by strategically managing the island of Puerto Rico. Players take on the roles of a planter, builder, recruiter, craftsman, merchant, captain and traveler. All players perform character-related actions, but only the player who has chosen a given role also benefits from its special bonus. Pay attention to your rivals and choose your actions so that they do not serve your opponents more than you. To defeat your rivals, you must constantly adapt to changing conditions and observe other plantations.
Puerto Rico 1897 is an atmospheric, modernized and refreshed version of the classic Puerto Rico. Mechanically, it is no different from its predecessor.
