MISTERCRAFT Su-22M4R JBG Aircraft Model
Unique Sukhoi Su-22M4R Model
Transfer into the world of military aviation with the MISTERCRAFT Su-22M4R Aircraft Model, faithfully reproducing the legendary Su-22 designated by NATO as Fitter. This single-seat fighter-bomber aircraft with variable wing geometry and a metal semi-monocoque structure is a real treat for every enthusiast of modeling and aviation history.
History of the Su-22
Designed by Pavel Sukhoi's design bureau and manufactured in the USSR, the Su-22 entered service in 1970. It is still used today by five countries: Poland, Angola, Syria, Vietnam and Yemen.
At the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, Poland purchased 90 operational machines of the Su-22M4 version and 20 training and combat machines of the Su-22UM3K version. The first Su-22 (M4 version, number 3005) landed in Poland on August 28, 1984.
Modernization and Maintenance
In the 1990s, Polish Su-22s did not undergo any significant modernization, they were only equipped with new navigation and flight safety systems, such as:
- Anti-collision lamps
- TACAM and VOR/ILS systems receivers
- Trimble civilian GPS receiver
- Supraśl home-foreign identification system transponder
Current Stationing and Future
Currently, the only place where the Su-22 is stationed is the 21st Tactical Air Base in Świdwin. In 2012, the Ministry of National Defense announced plans to withdraw these aircraft from service by 2014, however, in June 2012, new plans were presented: replacing the Su-22 with 30 unmanned UCAV vehicles.
More than half of the 110 Su-22s were withdrawn between 1999 and 2005. In 1999, the number of these machines was 98 single- and two-seater units. In 2005, there were only 48 units, and in 2012 - 32. In February 2014, the Minister of National Defense, Tomasz Siemoniak, announced that Su-22 aircraft would remain in the Air Force's equipment longer than previously planned. A decision was made to modernize 18 aircraft (including six two-seaters) at WZL-2 in Bydgoszcz to enable them to remain in service for another ten years.
