Mil Mi-2 was a medium, multi-role helicopter designed by the Mil design office and mass-produced in Świdnik. The machine had a full-metal, semi-monocoque structure with a fixed landing gear, in a classic arrangement with a main rotor and a tail rotor on a beam. The drive was provided by two GTD-350 engines of various versions with a power of 400-450 HP each. The first prototype first flew in September 1961, and series production lasted from 1965 to 1985. It is estimated that approximately 5,500 copies of this popular helicopter were built!

History and Modernizations

The Polish plant in Świdnik purchased only the documentation for the Mi-2 prototype machine from the Mil plant, and they were responsible for the successful implementation of mass production and the development of documentation intended for such production. Several upgrades have been made to the basic version:

• Mi-2T: had a slightly higher lifting capacity and an electric crane.
• Mi-2R: agricultural version intended for large-area spraying (1968).
• Mi-2SR: medical and rescue version (1972).

The very successful Mi-2 was widely exported to the Warsaw Pact countries, but also to, for example, Peru and Mexico. He took part in the war in Afghanistan (1979-1989) and in the fight against the Chernobyl disaster in 1986.
