History and Design of PZL.37 Łoś
The Polish design and production of this medium twin-engine bomber with a low-wing, all-metal construction and retractable landing gear began in the Aviation Department of the Ministry of Military Affairs. in July 1934. The main designer was Eng. Jerzy Dąbrowski, supported by Piotr Kubicki and Franciszek Misztal, responsible for the construction of the airfoil.
The prototype was approved in April 1935, and its first flight took place on December 13, 1936, led by the test pilot of the PZL Factory, Jerzy Widawski.
Specifications of the PZL.37A Series
The PZL.37A series was to be based on the third prototype (P.37/II), but after consultations, it was decided to purchase 10 A version aircraft and 20 A bis version machines. Series features include:
- Single tail
- Kubicki's new chassis
- Dual rudder system
The A bis version had a double tail. All aircraft were equipped with two Bristol Pegasus XII B engines with a maximum power of 873 HP.
Presentation at the Exhibition in Belgrade
Yugoslavia invited PZL to an exhibition in Belgrade (May 28 - June 13, 1938). A copy of the Łoś A bis aircraft, with Bristol Pegasus XX engines, was presented there, specially prepared for the exhibition and registered under the civilian mark SP-BNL. The plane attracted a lot of attention, including from the Regent of Yugoslavia, Prince Paul.
